KEN WILEY: JAZZ HORN REDUX
The American Ken Wiley plays the French horn, and is considered one of the top session musicians in LA So he played with bassist Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, the Charlie Rouse Quintet, bassists John Patitucci (Chick Corea) and Jimmy Johnson (Wayne Johnson , Allan Holdsworth), and guitarists Mike Miller and Grant Geissman (Chuck Mangione). He also composed music for film and TV. He played live at many festivals, and this now his fourth release. He wrote a book, namely 'Ken's Jazz Lounge', and this CD contains 11 classics to play with them through that book on French horn. You can hear Miles Davis' 'All Blues', but also Charlie Parker's' Scrapple from the Apple'. Also Miles Davis '' Freedie Freeloader ', Antonio Carlos Jobim's' Corcovado ', John Coltrane's' Equinox 'and Sonny Rollins' 'Oleo' are on the program. These classics from the 50s and 60s are brought fresh and modern. The French horn is thus in the foreground here, and that is not so obvious, but Ken is doing well.
